FP6 witnessed the launch of key initiatives aiming to strengthen and build the European Research Area in IST, some focussing on general issues and challenges, while others targeting specific IST areas. Sharing experience; communicating objectives and results; renewing interest and commitment to IST ERA; engaging key European stakeholders in future coordination – in summary, these key aims are motivating IST ERA projects to join forces and make a lasting impression with key stakeholders at the IST 2006 ERA Information Stand.

The Joint Information Stand will offer a lively meeting place for IST ERA projects and attract key European stakeholders from the Commission, national policy makers and programme managers, industrial actors, and the research community at large.

Workshop on Building a Nanophotonics Roadmap
MONA (Merging Optics and Nanotechnologies, www.ist-mona.org ) is a two-year action of the European Commission. The principal outcome of the MONA project will be a Roadmap for Nanophotonic Technologies. In this workshop you are invited to participate in the construction of this roadmap. There will first be presentations of nanophotonics roadmap progress from around the world. From these efforts some key areas for debate have been identified. You will be able to contribute by joining a work group to develop a response to one of these issues. The results of all working groups will be presented in the concluding part of the workshop.

Technical sessions will highlight today's state of affairs and tomorrow's challenges and bottlenecks regarding various related domains in nanoelectronics and explore the links with related areas, such as biotechnology, advanced materials development, microsystems and photonics. A topical session will highlight the economical and societal implications of nanotechnology. The INC3 conference will be preceded by the 'European Nano Day' and a parallel topical seminar on Intellectual Property Rights in nanotechnology.

Micro and nanotechnology: Hands-on laboratory courses
A series of 6 hands-on laboratory courses in the area of Micro and Nano technology will be offered at the Technion (Israel), CEA Grenoble (France), and IFN-CNR (Italy). The aim of this series of courses is to train young researchers in the experimental tools needed to close the gap between the Nano and Micro technologies. These events are financed by the European Union, Marie Curie Conferences and Training Courses, PROMINAS contract. In the summer of 2007 the first 2 courses will be offered at the Technion (Basic Microelectronics Processing) and IFN-CNR (Single Electron Transistors, Photonic Crystals, and Nano Tools)

Since Surface Plasmon Photonics is now a matured field, this specific conference should be a good opportunity for having a clear overview of the current state of the art in a convivial atmosphere and avoiding thematic dispersion.
