The conference will cover a broad range of topics in nanophotonics including

Photonics for Applications in Industry, Life Sciences, and Communications

Wroclaw University of Technology (WRUT) in collaboration with the European Photonic Industry Consortium (EPIC) ( ) and under the auspices of the European Programme OPERA-2015 , is organising a symposium devoted to Photonic Technologies for Framework Programme 7.

This year’s Annual Meeting of the European Optical Society (EOS) will be held alongside the OPTO exhibition in Paris, France (16 - 19 October 2006). For the first time, the EOS Annual Meeting will also feature six topical meetings.

This announcement is a call for abstracts for the IEEE Nanotechnology Materials and Devices Conference(IEEE NMDC). This conference, sponsored by the IEEE Nanotechnology Council (NTC) and the National Center for Nanomaterials Technology (NCNT), will be held in Gyeongju, South Korea, October 22 - 25,2006. IEEE NMDC aims to develop critical assessment of existing work and future directions in nanotechnology research including nanomaterials and fabrications, nanoelectronics, nanophotonics, devices, and integration. This conference will bring together key researchers from all over the world and from everysector of academy and industry in the nanotechnology research field, with a special focus on materials and devices. The conference will consist of plenary talks, invited talks, and contributed presentations with aseparate poster session.

The conference scope covers all aspects related to fiber optic and guided-wave sensing devices, systems, theories and techniques for research and applications in industrial, life sciences, medical, oil & gas, civil engineering, materials and defense industries, among others.

The International Association of Nanotechnology is a non-profit professional association with the goal of fostering research collaboration worldwide for the benefit of society.

A NMP session is organized on 17th November 2006 during the two days conference inaugurating FP7 in Poland. The session will be proceeded by general and parallel sessions devoted to different aspects of FP7, e.g. Program Ideas, Program People, Joint Research Center, Cooperation with Eastern European Countries as well as financial and legal aspects. NMP session will be accompanied by an extra session devoted to technology platforms related to NMP priority (e.g. EuMat, Manufuture, Construction etc.) on Nov. 17th as well as project meetings arranged on need.

BUILDING THE IST ERA
Joint Information Stand for IST ERA Projects

FP6 witnessed the launch of key initiatives aiming to strengthen and build the European Research Area in IST, some focussing on general issues and challenges, while others targeting specific IST areas. Sharing experience; communicating objectives and results; renewing interest and commitment to IST ERA; engaging key European stakeholders in future coordination – in summary, these key aims are motivating IST ERA projects to join forces and make a lasting impression with key stakeholders at the IST 2006 ERA Information Stand.

The Joint Information Stand will offer a lively meeting place for IST ERA projects and attract key European stakeholders from the Commission, national policy makers and programme managers, industrial actors, and the research community at large.

The 1st European Topical Meeting on Nanophotonics and Metamaterials

These international partnering days provide a platform for industrial and R&D institutions to find and to be found as partner - customers, respectively. Especially for the coming 7th framework programme, specific know-how, products, technologies, specific demands, cooperation needs etc. can be announced in technology profiles. Prior to the event all profiles can be checked and up to 12 appointments with specific participants can be announced. Every participant receives his individual meeting schedule few days before the event.

MONA (Merging Optics and Nanotechnologies, www.ist-mona.org ) is a two-year action of the European Commission. The principal outcome of the MONA project will be a Roadmap for Nanophotonic Technologies. In this workshop you are invited to participate in the construction of this roadmap. There will first be presentations of nanophotonics roadmap progress from around the world. From these efforts some key areas for debate have been identified. You will be able to contribute by joining a work group to develop a response to one of these issues. The results of all working groups will be presented in the concluding part of the workshop.

Follow up IST 2006 with a visit to Köln 2007, a one day event to help ICT researchers respond to the calls for proposals under the work programme 2007/2008 of the 7th Framework Programme for R&D.

Köln 2007 will be an opportunity to meet other people with similar or complementary research interests, and wishing to form project consortia.

After a short opening ceremony with speeches from the German Federal Minister of Research, and Commissioner Reding, the rest of the day will be organised as an information fair, with no formal agenda.

Advanced Materials & Nanotechnology

AMN-3 will be held 11-16 February 2007 in Wellington not only New Zealand’s political capital but also its cultural, intellectual and increasingly its scientific capital.

Building on the hugely successful AMN-1 (2003) and AMN-2 (2005) conferences we intend to offer you a smorgasbord of the latest findings in the areas of nanotechnology and advanced materials. A series of 6 hands-on laboratory courses in the area of Micro and Nano technology will be offered at the Technion (Israel), CEA Grenoble (France), and IFN-CNR (Italy). The aim of this series of courses is to train young researchers in the experimental tools needed to close the gap between the Nano and Micro technologies. These events are financed by the European Union, Marie Curie Conferences and Training Courses, PROMINAS contract. In the summer of 2007 the first 2 courses will be offered at the Technion (Basic Microelectronics Processing) and IFN-CNR (Single Electron Transistors, Photonic Crystals, and Nano Tools)

The MONA project is building a European Roadmap for photonics and nanotechnologies. This session will present the background of the process and the people involved.

The Nanoscience Department of the University of Burgundy is organizing the 3rd International Conference on Surface Plasmon Photonics (SPP3) to be held in Dijon, France from June 17th to 22nd, 2007. The previous edition gathered over 250 participants and was held in Graz, Austria.

Since Surface Plasmon Photonics is now a matured field, this specific conference should be a good opportunity for having a clear overview of the current state of the art in a convivial atmosphere and avoiding thematic dispersion.

The focus of the conference will be to sum up recent progress in the dynamically evolving scientific and technical field of one-dimensional materials, primarily related to the field of semiconductor nanowires formed by self-assembly, but also covering other kinds of 1D materials, such as carbon nanotubes as well as top-down fabricated nanowires. The QIPC 2007 International Conference on Quantum Information Processing and Communication will be held in Barcelona October 15-19, 2007.
